The federal government governs air traffic control of aircraft. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) operates the control tower at FXE. The responsibility of controllers is to provide a safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of traffic.

Executive Airport’s first tower cab was constructed on top of the Yankee Baseball Stadium on the northwest corner in 1966.  By 1973, the FAA completed construction of a control tower, 37 feet tall to the floor of the cab.  Starting in 1989, the tower was operated 24-hours a day.

The FAA constructed a 98-foot tall control tower to the top of the cab, which was commissioned on November 4, 2014.  The tower design meets new FAA requirements for access and security and was constructed with hurricane resistant materials. The taller height of the tower provides controllers improved views of the airfield, which will further enhance operations.
