Runway Safety Action Team (RSAT)

Runway Safety embodies a safe flight — both at its start and at its conclusion. It continues to be one of the FAA's highest priorities and encompasses pilots, air traffic controllers and airport vehicle drivers. We offer guidance, resources and expertise and welcome your questions, comments and suggestions.

FXE is seeking input from individuals who operate on the Airport Operations Area (AOA) (i.e. pilots, tug operators, mechanics, air traffic controllers, airport operations personnel, police, fire fighters, etc.) regarding any locations or conditions at FXE that may be confusing or considered hazardous, and may need corrective actions to avoid potential incidents.

FXE utilizes the Runway Safety Action Team (RSAT) meeting process to unite those individuals and organizations that are actively involved in air traffic operations and movement of aircraft, vehicles and equipment on the Airport Operations Area (AOA). We look for participation from all major airport interests including tenants, fixed base operators, airport operations and maintenance personnel. Participants are asked to help develop recommendations and solutions to enhance surface safety. Those recommendations serve as the foundation for a site-specific Runway Safety Action Plan.

Suggestions may include, but are not limited to:

• Signage, markings and lighting (adding or eliminating)

• Adding, eliminating or straightening a taxiway

• Procedural or rule changes (ATC, tenant or airport operations)

• Improved or enhanced training

• Improved equipment, (i.e., radios, headsets or transponders)

• Areas on the airfield that you think could be improved
